Job Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Worcester
Reports to: Director of Accounting
Job Type: Full-time, On-site/Hybrid

Overview:
Seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the smooth operation of accounting functions. This position will focus on general reconciliations, credit card management, payroll accounts, and accounts payable while serving as a backup to various team members. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical abilities, be able to work independently, and thrive in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, including account analysis and resolving discrepancies.
  • Manage and reconcile credit card transactions and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Oversee payroll account reconciliations, ensuring payroll expenses are accurately posted.
  • Support the Accounts Payable function by reviewing invoices, processing payments, and maintaining vendor records.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Serve as a backfill for various accounting roles, providing support during peak periods or absences within the team.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve financial discrepancies and provide guidance on financial procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation for audits and other financial reviews.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable, and credit card management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Peoplesoft is a plus
  • Knowledge of higher education finance and accounting policies.
