Position Overview
The organization is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO will lead the organization’s financial strategy and operations. This includes overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial compliance, internal controls, audits, payroll, and insurance. The CFO will play a pivotal role in supporting mission-critical initiatives by providing strategic financial insights, ensuring compliance with federal and state funding requirements, and building a high-performing finance team.

In addition to being a trusted advisor to the Board of Directors and its Finance Committee, the CFO will lead efforts to enhance operational efficiency, manage risks, and align financial practices with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial functions, including budgeting, accounting, payroll, grants management, and insurance.
  • Develop and implement effective financial strategies to ensure the organization’s fiscal health and sustainability.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state funding requirements, including OMB circulars and financial reporting standards.
  • Present financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors and senior leadership, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls and fiscal policies to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Supervise and mentor the finance team, fostering professional development and collaboration.
  • Identify and manage financial risks while providing strategic recommendations to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to ensure appropriate budget allocations and effective utilization of resources.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
  • At least seven years of senior financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • In-depth understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with grant funding, federal and state financial reporting, and OMB circular compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities, with a focus on empowering staff.
