Cost Accountant

The Cost Accountant will work closely with the Controller to provide timely and accurate accounting for multiple facilities by monitoring, analyzing and providing cost updates on a monthly basis. Responsibilities will include the compilation and submittal of monthly market reports according to company policy and ensuring proper product accruals. The Cost Accountant will serve as a resource to inter-corporate accounting teams on cost accounting matters.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Determine the distribution of costs for various divisions of management and production within the Company.
  • Compute the unit cost of product or service through the classification of labor, material, and overhead costs.
  • Record cost data for use by management in controlling expenditures.
  • Prepare, analyze, and track monthly inventory reserves, material savings, inventory forecast, and standard margin variances.
  • Gather system reports and information from plants needed to complete the Market Administrator report.
  • Conduct and analyze audits of costs and prepare reports.
  • Determine and install cost accounting methods and procedures.
  • Analyze actual costs versus standard costs and prepares reports of variances.
  • Compile cost data for preparation of operating budgets.
  • Prepare estimates of new or proposed product costs.
  • Perform intercompany accounting procedures by calculating intercompany pricing, creating invoices for intercompany charges, and recording expenditures and product received, and creating product sales invoices.
  • Instruct or assign work to cost clerks and accounting clerks engaged in cost or general accounting activities.
  • Support multiple functions such as General Management, Human Resources, Operations, Sales, Group Vice Presidents, and Corporate Finance.
  • Provide cost accounting expertise to seniors for assigned plant and leaders by exchanging information and providing guidance.
  • Support members of Internal Audit team and Company’s external auditors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting – REQUIRED
  • 2+ years Accounting or Finance experience, including at least 1 year of Standard Costing experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and other areas related to financial reporting requirements and systems proficiency.
  • Proficient in JD Edwards and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments, management levels within the company, and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, background and criminal checks).
